At Ram?s birthplace, a Hindu temple had existed since the 12th Century AD, known as the Vishnu-Hari Temple. In early 16th Century, the Mughal King Babar launched his 5th invasion into India in 1526. He marched to Ayodhya in 1528 with his army led by Mir Baqi, who erected a mosque at the site of the temple using Temple material in the walls. The mosque came to be known as the Babri Masjid.
